The surprise guest at The Darkness' Saturday night performance in London (9th December) was none other than Ed Sheeran.
Unannounced, Ed Sheeran took the stage at The Roundhouse sporting a Darkness T-shirt. In front of a crowd of 1,800, he treated the audience to a brief six-song set, revealing his longtime dream of supporting The Darkness since he first acquired 'Permission To Land' at the age of 13.
Addressing the crowd, Sheeran expressed, “It was always my ambition to be onstage with them one day. Check me out on MySpace... I hope you like it... If you don’t, it’s only half an hour.”
Later in the night, Ed Sheeran made a return to the stage during The Darkness' set, joining forces with Justin Hawkins, Frankie Poullain, Dan Hawkins, and Rufus Tiger Taylor to perform 'Love is Only a Feeling.'
The Darkness shared a clip of the collaboration, describing it as "Legendary stuff featuring @edsheeran last night in @RoundhouseLDN."
Highlighting their camaraderie, it's worth noting that The Darkness had previously supported Ed Sheeran during his August 2019 outdoor shows at Leeds Roundhay Park and Ipswich Chantry Park.
In a recent tribute, The Darkness paid homage to the late Shane MacGowan by performing The Pogues' 'Fairytale of New York' in Dublin.
For those eager to catch The Darkness live, their 'Permission To Land' 20th-anniversary tour is currently ongoing, with the next stop at Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom tonight (Monday, 11th December).
