The Plainest Truth

The Plainest Truth began on Bluestack Records on Wednesday 12th February, 2020. Their music is a dreamy and soulful take on classic folk songwriting. It’s relaxed and unhurried, unconcerned with much else going on in the world. They have echoes of Fleetwood Mac, Leonard Cohen and Richard Hawley, while still forging their own unique path.

Hailing from Waterford, Ireland, Joe and Aisling first got to know each other through their city’s vibrant music scene. The Plainest Truth played many gigs together as part of their friend Katie Kim’s live band before Joe moved away to Scotland. They remained good friends however and kept in touch, eventually agreeing to sketch out ideas for melodies and lyrics between Dublin and Edinburgh. Songs slowly began to crystallise into something meaningful, soulful, honest.

“We’re ecstatic about the reaction we’re already receiving, and excited to see people connect with it so quickly," explained Joe and Aisling. "Our musical connection is really strong, we have the same instincts, we like the same sounds without having to think too much about it. Lyrically, we sing about missing people, needing them, the human connections you can't deny and what that longing does to your head. We miss each other a lot as friends and wish we could see each other every day! And we think that comes through in the songs.”
