Ilonalowe Biography

ilonalowe is an independent alt-folk artist born and based in South West London. Nowadays she may take inspiration from Gillian Welch, Laura Marling, Cherry Ghost and Jackson Browne, but it was Alice Glass’ chaotic performance at Reading Festival some years ago that inspired Marnie Burt to reach for her first recording setup at the age of sixteen.   ilonalowe’s unique storytelling style has been described as accomplished, timeless and evocative, her demos all written between a Little Martin and a cheap hand-me-down guitar.  ilonalowe’s unique storytelling style has been described as accomplished, timeless and evocative, her demos all written between a Little Martin and a cheap hand-me-down guitar. The UK lockdowns of 2020-21 provided the perfect opportunity for Marnie to find her sea legs with a sound that appeals to alternative folk fans everywhere, fulfilling her place in the world of independent artistry with her DIY approach to creating artwork, music videos and hand-printed linocut merchandise.

Throughout the rest of this year, ilonalowe will continue to write and release plenty of new music. Keep an eye on the website and sign up to the mailing list to be the first to know of gig dates as the London live scene begins to open up once more.
